Why Are My Carpets Wet?

Mysterious wet spots on the carpet are something homeowners will face sometimes. The main issue here is trying to figure out what is causing the dampness. There are many factors at play. If you can’t diagnose the problem right away, you should still take preventative measures until you can solve the problem. You want to prevent mold from spreading in your Utah home.

Here are some steps you should take:

  • Remove the water as fast as possible with a shop vac. Do not use your ordinary house vacuum.
  • Set up fans to help with the drying process.
  • Use dehumidifiers near the wet area.
  • Dry any items and furniture that are wet and relocate them to a dry area.
  • Wipe down and clean your walls if they have moisture on them.

If the problem persists, you may have a serious issue on-hand and you should call an expert. You could have leaky pipes somewhere in your house and they need to be taken care of immediately.

It Could Be a Slab Leak

After you’ve taken your preventative measures and your carpet still won’t dry, then a likely culprit is a slab leak. Slab leaks occur when the water lines beneath them leak. There are several ways a slab leak problem can happen. The most common are: ground shifting, faulty pipe wrapping, a nicked line that erodes over time and electrolysis. Electrolysis occurs when your copper pipe reacts with the minerals in the soil, and this creates an electrical reaction that can erode your pipe over time.

Do not hesitate to call a professional restoration company in Utah if you think it’s a slab leak. Slab leaks need to be dealt with immediately. If they are ignored, then you will have some serious damage done to your home. It’s much cheaper to get the issue fixed right away than to have your home repaired after some serious water damage.

Contact Your Insurance Agent

If your circumstance is serious enough, look over your insurance policy to see if your situation is covered. Insurance companies have stipulations as to what will be covered and what won’t. When you make a claim, your agent may recommend a team of professionals that they’ve dealt with before, but you can certainly contact one of your choosing.
